SCC Souper Conférence - Sustainable Development During the Infodemic, Jennifer Novakovich

The SCC Quebec invites you to the second event of the year on March 28, 2024 at Mc Hall for a dinner conference about: ‘Sustainable development during the infodemic’ held in English by Jennifer Novakovich. The infodemic, merging “information” and “epidemic” is a rapid spread of both accurate and inaccurate information. Then, rumors and fears get mixed and dispersed, it becomes difficult to obtain essential information about an issue. Sustainable development is today very concerned by the infodemic!

Description of the conference:

At this point, we all probably are aware that misinformation is a challenge; in the beauty sector and beyond. For example, according to the World Economic Forum, misinformation is a core technological and geopolitical risk globally. Its impacts on environmental sustainability is an emerging area of research. This presentation will explore the available literature as it connects to environmental sustainability in the cosmetics sector, current sustainability misinformation in personal care, examples of outcomes from the ingredient supplier perspective, and opportunities for addressing this misinformation effectively. This presentation will be given by Jen Novakovich from The Eco Well, based on her PhD research on the subject.

Speaker's Bio:

Jen Novakovich is a cosmetic scientist, science communicator, founder of The Eco Well, and co-founder of BeautySciComm. Jen began her career working as a cosmetic chemist before she transitioned into science communication and working as a technical consultant. She has developed an expertise in sustainability substantiation, management and regulations. Through her sci-comm work, she’s interviewed over 1000 subject matter experts, and hosts a regular cosmetic science focused podcased - The Eco Well Podcast. Jen’s also launched several larger scale cosmetic science conferences, including a free e-summit series geared towards helping democratize accurate information about cosmetic sciences. She is active on Instagram under the handle @theecowell.

Jen previously served on the NextGen Committee by the Society of Cosmetic Chemists, and as Executive Director of The Eco Market Canada. She currently sits on the Supply Chain and Sustainability Resources, and Government and Relations advisory committees with the Independent Beauty Association. Jen completed two Bachelors of Science degrees, a diploma in Formulation Chemistry, a Masters of Science in environmental science, and a graduate certificate in environmental policy. The latter were geared towards ecotoxicology and environmental regulations that impact the cosmetics sector. Jen is currently completing a PhD at the University of Ottawa studying the impact of misinformation on sustainable development in the cosmetics sector.
